BCR June Sprints Report

Another fabulous weekend for BC Race Cars at the CASC June Sprints, Round 3 of the Pirelli GT Championship. For the first time this year, we had five cars under our awning, keeping our excellent crew busy all weekend.

Newcomer Sean Grosman, driving his C5 TA Corvette, battled electrical and power steering issues throughout the weekend. Our star crew chief, Zac Mahoney, even made a trip back to the shop to machine custom parts that solved the problem. Sean also experienced transponder issues, forcing him to start from the back of the grid for the first two races. Despite the setbacks, everything came together in the end, and he earned a podium finish in the GT-1 final—an outstanding result in his first-ever CASC GT race weekend.

Akers Autoglass driver Reg Akers was also back on track, getting his mojo back after a nasty crash last fall and many gremlins popping up in his first outing this year. As always, the BCR crew worked through the issues one by one, allowing Reg to put together some solid runs before a missed shift unfortunately forced the retirement of the car.

Rob Martin, in his TA2 Camaro, finally enjoyed a strong weekend—although it wasn’t without challenges. A failing battery took out two alternators, but once again the crew diagnosed and resolved the issue. Rob completed every race and finished fourth in the highly competitive GTU class in the final race.

Leroy Micallef, driving the #40 BCR Mustang, also had a successful weekend. He claimed the GTU class win in Race 1 before finishing third in both Races 2 and 3. Well driven and great racing in a competitive class!

The #10 BCR Camry had an outstanding Saturday, capturing pole position and taking the win in Race 1. It was an exciting battle, with the top three cars running nose-to-tail for most of the 20-minute race. Unfortunately, while fighting for the lead in Sunday’s race, the Camry was caught in an incident that ended our weekend prematurely.

Overall, it was another successful weekend for BC Race Cars. While the team faced its share of mechanical challenges, the crew once again demonstrated its expertise by keeping nearly every car on track and competitive throughout the event.

Next stop: Calabogie in late August!
