Round 2 of the Ontario Pirelli GT Championship was held at Calabogie Motorsports Park and BCR participated with our #120 TA2 Camaro driven by Misha Goikhberg (making a rare appearance in club racing) and the ASA rental stock car, driven by yours truly.
We struggled with the ASA stock car, but with the help of Jay at Powersports Garage, we fixed the car by Saturday qualifying. With no track time, we considered ourselves lucky to qualify 7th! As new tires were not available, the car ran on multi-cycle tires handed down from the Trans-Am car, never showing its true potential. Regardless, we finished the first and second races in 5th, and 7th in the last race where we were on slicks on a wet but drying track.
We had a great test day on Friday with Misha, evaluating many different set-ups and shocks. Tire degradation is a huge issue here, and we learnt how to manage it, all of which should translate well to our pro racing program. Thanks to all our crew who worked tirelessly in extreme heat conditions, completely drenched in sweat and still managing to turn around the hot cars with all the changes, session after session!
Despite the extreme heat, Misha achieved some super-fast times in qualifying and won the first and second races easily. In the final race, he also struggled with slicks on a wet track, and simply could not hold off the other TA2 cars on wets, finishing 3rd.
