We were happy to be back racing with Trans-Am at the scenic Watkins Glen Raceway, showcasing our new TA2 car, the #0 2021 Camaro.
Driver Misha Goikhberg had extensive experience with the development of this car, having tested it locally at Mt. Tremblant and Calabogie. And we showed up quick out of the box, placing top 3 in both test sessions and P2 in our official practise.
Qualifying was a mixed bag, placing 3rd but not happy about being impeded by slower traffic on our hot lap! Nevertheless, a top 3 in this talented field is nothing to be ashamed of!
As a double header weekend, there were 2 races, both full length at 100 miles each. The combined format, which includes all classes not just TA2, resulted in many cautions and restarts. Again, slower traffic played a significant part in the results, and we finished a respectable, albeit disappointing 5th.
For the start of race #2 on Sunday, the field was lined up based on fastest lap during race #1. As such we started 3rd, and immediately took 2nd at the start. The top 6 were nose-to-tail for the entire time, swapping back and forth, it was awesome racing to watch. On a restart with 9 laps to go and being in 2nd position, we were slightly touched in the high speed esses, which resulted in a massive crash with many cars destroyed, including ours. A very disappointing ending to an otherwise successful weekend.
