BCR’s BEMC Late Summer Sprints Report

It’s been a while since BC Race Cars had five cars running on the same race weekend, and we were excited for the challenge! Five cars means a serious logistics game—tires, fuel, toolboxes, food and, most importantly, crew.

Friday Test Day – A Day We’d Rather Forget

We only had Rob Martin running on Friday, and unfortunately, it was a rough one. We started with transmission issues, pulling it three times before finally getting it sorted, only to end the day with a dropped valve in a brand-new motor.

We feel terrible for Rob and are working today to get the motor out and up to the engine builder, just in case there’s a chance of getting it repaired in time for the October 2–4 finale.

Leroy Micallef – #40 Mustang GTU

Leroy had a mixed weekend. He broke out in qualifying with a 1:22.6, which unfortunately put him at the back of the field. He made a great start and charged his way up to 4th before the transmission let go.

Enter Rob Martin—and his spare transmission! Thanks, Rob! With the new transmission installed, Leroy once again started from the back and drove all the way to 3rd, then backed it up with a 2nd-place finish in the finale, despite managing a few issues along the way.

Tor Krueger – 2012 Derhaag TA

Tor made his Pirelli Sprints debut in our 2012 Derhaag TA car. The decision to race came at the last minute, and unfortunately, we couldn’t get tires in time. He ran the entire weekend on well-used rubber but still managed a 1:20.4 qualifying lap and a couple of 4th-place finishes.

We can’t wait to see what Tor can do with some fresh tires!

Sean Grossman – Derhaag TA

Sean was having a great weekend, setting personal bests and putting together some strong finishes. Unfortunately, during a restart in Race 3, a mistake by a GTU car sent Sean into the wall at Turn 3.

We’ll do everything we can to get the car repaired and Sean back on track for the finale!

Blaise – Super TA2 Camry

Yours truly had a trouble-free weekend in our Super TA2 Camry, posting a personal-best 1:16.8—video below!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to get past the talent of JR Fitzpatrick, and we came home with second place in every race.

Now we just need to figure out how to go faster!

Overall, it was a weekend of highs, lows, broken parts, great drives and a whole lot of work from the BCR crew. Five cars is definitely a logistics chess game—but we’re already looking forward to the finale!
