TA2 Race Car Rentals

Sebring Opener, TA2 SCCA Trans-Am

BC Race Cars was fortunate to have made round one of the 2021 SCCA Pro Trans-Am series in Sebring, FL, narrowly escaping the record winter storm that swept thru much of the United States, entering two TA2 Camaros, one well-proven and the other completely un-tested.

Misha Goikhberg re-joined the team as the primary driver of the #10 BCR Camaro. A broken upper radiator hose put us out of the first practise session, but we immediately rebounded in the second practise where Misha was quickest! He continued his awesome performance and posted a 3rd in qualifying with some very well driven laps.

Starting 3rd, Misha took advantage of some argy-bargy in front of him, and took the lead on lap one. A few laps later, deciding to follow rather than lead, he slipped back into 3rd, content to save the car for the end.  An unfortunate full course yellow and subsequent re-start allowed an otherwise slower competitor to get beside him and we were heavily impacted, resulting in front and rear suspension damage so severe we had to retire the car. A very frustrating end to an otherwise wonderful weekend.

The new car didn’t start out well either, having clutch issues that prevented us from participating in the two available test sessions. We repaired it, but only had 9 laps to sort things out before qualifying and ended up a bit disappointed with 16th.

The race went much better for the #20 Camaro, we were able to stay out of trouble and pick off competitors one by one. Along with some luck, we ended up 9th, an awesome finish for us given the new car and the driver’s lengthy absence from pro-racing.

Great job from our crew as usual, team manager Penny, crew chiefs Mike and Jeff, and ace mechanic Andrew. Thank you for your great work.
