Late Summer Trophy Race Report

As usual, the BEMC Trophy races in September enjoy the most beautiful weather and greatest track conditions, resulting in some incredible lap times and great racing.

BC Race Cars had three TA2 cars under our tent this weekend as well as helping out some customer cars around us. We all did our personal bests of the season, with some great drives and exciting racing.

Rob Martin, in his new to him TA2 Camaro achieved a best so far of a 1:23. This was only his third time in the car, especially after a hiatus of a few years! He had some great races, finishing in the top ten, even when he battled an electrical problem during race 3! Unfortunately, he won’t be able to run the last race weekend to continue his progression; we can’t wait to see where he gets to next season!

Also, without a lot of seat time was Leroy Micallef, driving our #10 TA2 Mustang. He qualified at his personal best of 1:20.2, fractions away from the magical sub 20 club! He finished 5th in the first race, but a clutch failure resulted in a DNF in race 2. The crew swiftly replaced the clutch and he starting last. Leroy drove all the way to P5 in the finale, what a great race!

Yours truly, after some expert coaching from Pro driver Josh Hurley, also posted a personal best of 1:18.8 in quali, which was only good for 3rd in this stacked field. Unfortunately, I could not maintain that position, running against faster cars and finished 4th in R1, 3rd in R2, some great racing with JR Fitzpatrick who was struggling with handling issue. The final race was equally exciting, racing with Jim B., and maintained second till my shifter started to break with 3 laps to go, eventually snapping off on the last lap, and I missed a shift. That’s all it took to lose 2nd, ended up 3rd again.
