BCR WINS GT-1 Championship and double podiums!

The final race of the Ontario Pirelli Sprint Championship, held at CTMP with unseasonal warm weather, proved to be another exciting event with great racing.

New to the series and TA2 cars was Elmer Shannon, form California, running the BCR #20 TA2 Mustang. After a 15 year hiatus, it took Elmer a few sessions to get up to speed on Friday, and Saturday during qualifying turned a best of 1:23.0 which put him 6^th on the grid. An exciting race followed, which saw him finish in a respectable 7^th position. An unfortunate racing incident took Elmer and the car out at the start of the second race, a really disappointing way to end an otherwise great weekend!

Our second TA2 car was piloted by Leroy Micallef, the BCR #10 TA2 Mustang, no changes from 2 weeks ago. He achieved a great lap time in qualifying, almost as fast as his personal best on a track that was nowhere as fast. He showed incredible patience, and skill to have great battles all weekend, finishing 3^rd in all the races. A great way to end a fantastic year, finally on the podium! Well done Leroy!

With nothing else to drive, yours truly decided to try our recently refurbished 90’s TA Camaro. I lot of getting used to on bias ply tires and old school set-ups, but we managed to put in on pole. The race was very hard as Marco in his GT3 Cup car was on our rear bumper the whole race, while we were dealing with blistered tires, trying to hang on! But the win was enough to clinch the Championship.

The car was turned over to Zac Mahoney, 2^nd in command at BCR, for Sunday’s races, as a thank you for his excellent work all year. He started last and coming thru the field had a flat left front tire, forcing an early retirement. So again, he started last for the final race, and slowly and steadily made his way up to second! Great drive Zac, achieving a double podium with Leroy!
